Nursing the elderly

Growing older, not just by mere age but also to the point of deteriorating physical function, is what many people fear to come to. This is because to become an elderly often means to be a hassle to the younger ones you have. And for this fact, in America, the elderly most likely placement is to admit to a nursing home.

Filipinos, however, are in a way different. Because of strong family ties and belongingness, the elderly are taken cared of at home as if they still were very normal. There is only small percentage of the elder Filipinos sent to a nursing home, or home for the aged as it is commonly called in the place.

In America, however, various nursing homes have sprung left and right to cater to the rather expanding number of elderly each year. With relatives that are more career-oriented, the American elderly have no choice but to stay in these nursing homes to be taken cared of by caregivers such as nurses, and also to have someone of their age to mingle with.

Both of my grandparents were cared for at our home and there weren’t any occasion that they were sent to a local nursing home. But if you really have no choice but to put your aged relatives to the care of other persons and don’t know which nursing home is best in terms of location, facilities and staff care, you can browse a nursing home directory for your reference.

I still believe that though aged, our relatives still need more of our care rather than the others’. That, I think, is one of the very reasons why these people marry and decided to have a child for them to have someone to care for them in their aged times. If you have aged relatives, think about it. Their time may be limited for a moment, so make the best of the remaining whiles.

Hey, nice post. In some way, elders are better off at home for the aged because they’re properly taken care of. And it doesn’t really mean you’re giving them up or you don’t care about them at all.

you got a point but isn’t it lovelier to be taken by the people who are really related to you by blood than the strangers?
