Has Google gone bonkers?

What does this woman in the picture (or at least her helping-hand bra) and Google (or its robots) have in common? Well they’re both weird, and, perhaps, a little crazy too. Now forget about that woman of 50-something or what, or the man by her side who thinks he’s a stud by being beside her. Let’s talk about Google and its latest PageRank update.
I knew it won’t be too long for the update to arrive, and here it is after another three months of anticipating. During the previous PR update, I was really hoping that my main blog then, My Consoling Asylum, would be gaining PR from zero to hero. Turned out it was from zero to mud hero. I blamed it to my paid reviews. Not that I regret earning from doing them *winks*. And because currently I am more focused here in my new blog, Zang Caesar, I didn’t expect my old blogs would be getting a PR perk-up. Now here, look at the blog URLs below: the first six URLS, as enclosed in a red box, are all mine, and the others are those blogs I frequent or like.
I am thankful my MCA blog had at last gained some PR. But take a look at my Blogger-Aid blog. It is something I have not updated since the last date of posting there (January 30), and it still has gained a PR of 2. And to make Google’s weirdness worse, my My Online Asylum, a free website I requested from Hyperwebenable, had also gained same PR, when in fact it is completely empty (if you don’t count WordPress’s default “Hello World” post, that is) and was left in vain. Has Google PR spiders or bots gone bonkers? How much more can Google get weird, or crazy?
If you want to check your PR, make sure you use the PR checker that is updated. I suggest you use PRChecker.info or PageRank.net. I am not sure whether or not to believe this current PageRank update though. It all seems very weird. Well, the best thing we can do for now is to wait until the dust settles.
For the meantime, I want to congratulate Mckhoii for his PR3, and I feel sorry for Ate JoanJoyce for a PR downgrade from 4 to 2. Don’t worry, it’s just PR. What matters is the content and the traffic.

Ah, the Google PR Update. I’ve been through several Pageranks since 2006. I started out strong, at PR 5 (how I got that, I’ll never know), then down to 4, down to 2, then finally Google completely slashed off whatever remaining PR I have left, leaving me with zero. It’s the text ads, they said. So I did what was suggested: I put a no-follow tag on paid text ads and clearly marked sponsored posts. I waited a couple of months and then I asked google to reconsider my page rank, given the changes I made to my sponsored posts. Before I knew it, I was back in the game with a PR3, and with this latest update, a PR4.
It seems Google is really strict about paid links. So I guess even if you don’t have that much content, you get a PR if it doesn’t have any paid links? O_o
Zang Caesar reply on May 2nd, 2008 1:24 am:
hmm. that makes sense. i believe it’s because of the paid links… but I don’t like to believe that without paid links, to the point of even no active posts as in the case of my myonlineasylum.com, can still get PR. Google’s PR is really a mystery to me. How ever Google PR operates, i am still thankful some of my blogs have finally gained PRs. and yes, the moment i started publishing posts in this blog, i put “nofollow”s on each and every outgoing link (that is not mine), whether paid or unpaid. well, this hasn’t received any paid links yet, anyway…

Google is Google. No one but Google will be able to explain how in the world they arrive with the PRs they give award to bloggers. One thing is certain [I think], paid posts are a big no-no to the big G.
My PinayWAHM used to be a blogspot. That pinaywahm.blogspot.com has now a PR of 4. Why? How? I don’t know. It’s supposed to be ‘non-existent’ in a sense since I converted it. It’s been with PR4 since January and it’s not changing…
Yun lang…

oh yes, big G hates paid links, posts, reviews.
How about your PinayWAHM.com? what PR does it have, Ate?
Juliana reply on May 3rd, 2008 9:42 am:
Hey Zang…
It was PR2 before this latest spanking. Now it’s back to zero. I think it stayed at PR2 for about 2 months.
Pinagsamantalahan ko kasi I knew it will be taken away as I really use that blog for the moolah….haha.
Just can’t understand why the pinaywahm.blogspot.com is still at PR4 last time I checked. They are one and the same if you think about it….and I did a lot of paid posts there too…
Anyway….see you around.

yes, i think the best way to maximize the use of PR while it’s there is to get moolah from it by doing sponsored posts. why not switch back to your blogspot blog, which is PR4? you can get a lot of moolah from it

…your last 2 lines should be a guide for everyone: “Don’t worry, it’s just PR. What matters is the content and the traffic.”
i lived with that since i started actively blogging in september last year. i wasn’t really after getting a page rank. wasn’t even checking it… i am just doing what i love- writing! in january, i got curious and checked. i apparently received a page rank of 3, was pretty pleased with it but not enough to jump up and down because it’s only a number!
then in february without doing anything my pagerank turned 0! i stopped checking since i was on vacation these past months! i clicked on your site from my yahoo mail and got curious again about page rank. i find out my site is at pagerank 3 again! google is pretty consistent with being inconsistent and unpredictable! perhaps next month, i’ll be back to zero again!
my point is that, we really don’t know what google has in mind when ranking pages, as you said- it is confusing. Ergo, we just make sure we have at least satisfactory content so the traffic will come and yeah- the page rank will eventually follow.
to those with page rank 0- in the overall scheme of life, it doesn’t matter! sooner or later you’ll have the coveted page rank. and to those with page ranks, just continue writing quality stuff because we’re never sure when google ranks us back to zero, hence the cycle begins!! God bless everyone…

I’m just as confused as you. For whatever reason, my PR was “N/A” and now it’s 0. I don’t know if I should consider that an upgrade. lol
Metallmans latest blog post..Entrecard
Zang Caesar reply on May 2nd, 2008 11:13 pm:
you can consider that an upgrade. for what reason? N/A means your site then wasn’t indexed in Google yet, and now that it’s zero, it’s indexed but has no PR yet. just work on with your blog/site, and wait for the next PR update.
Juliana reply on May 3rd, 2008 9:48 am:
Hmm…not quite sure if the N/A means the site is not indexed in Google. My other blog, Teacher’s Corner used to have a PR3…then it went to PR0…then it went to N/A…then back to PR0.
Di naman siguro pwedeng indexed tapos biglang mawawala? Hmmm….ayoko na ngang mag-isip. Baka ako ang maging ‘bonkers’ after all these….
Julianas latest blog post..My Little Helper…
Zang Caesar reply on May 3rd, 2008 4:18 pm:
well at least that’s what some PR checkers say when your PageRank is N/A - MAY have not yet been indexed in Google. oo nga, don’t think about it too hard, or else you’ll go bonkers too. hehe
