Last July 25, 2008, our three-month training as nurses at Davao Regional Hospital ended, and after a week I have finally gotten my training certificate. It doesn’t look good, honestly. But anyway, it will be useful for me especially in applying jobs related to nursing.

And now that the training is over, I planned of applying as a clinical instructor (C.I.) to our former clinical instructor, who is now a dean of Nursing at Western Visayas College of Science and Technology, as my friend Marc told me to, believing that the three months of training in the hospital, plus my credentials, will suffice for me to hired.

“Filipina Girl” sucks!

Filipina woman, \'yan ang pinay

But don’t react just yet. Read on…

I first heard about the song “Filipina Girl” at my blogger of a friend Kuya Mon some weeks ago. With the Filipino pride surging heavily through me like when I was (and still am) proud with the likes of Charlie Green, Madonna Decena, Arnel Pineda of The Journey, and even the homegrown singer of a young lady Charice Pempengco, I immediately listened to the song.

First I must commend Marcus Davis, Jr. for having created a song like this one. He too is proud of his Filipino descent, primarily from that of her Filipino mother, whom he gallantly mentioned in the lyrics. But truth be told, I don’t like the song very much. Filipina Girl sucks! This can even be one of the reasons why I haven’t heard it on the local FM stations. Never ever.

The longer, the better?

long pole

My hospital training at Davao Regional Hospital will end this Friday, and I am really looking forward to that. So today, as the president of all the trainees of this batch, I called for a meeting of us all officers, to lay out the plans for the upcoming graduation.

In six day’s time, my hospital training will be officially over, and I am wondering what I will do after. During the initial runnings of my training, I really wished that the training time would be longer. But now, forget it. We are getting closer to its end. I will be submitting applications to some nursing schools after and the local hospitals too. I want to work as a clinical instructor. The sad thing, though, is that most schools will only hire a nurse for a clinical instructor those with at least a year of hospital exposure. By that, I want to work in a hospital for a year first. But what an agony; hospitals here don’t pay much. And a year is somewhat too long. The longer is not the better.

What are your collections?

collecting stamps, stamps collection

Since I was a child, I love to round up collectibles. Back in the days I loved collecting pads of papers, especially those cute, little post-it-like white papers from my uncle’s office. And there were the days, specifically in my first grade, that before I went to school by afternoon (I had half-day classes then) my meal would frequently involved noodles, as there was that noodle brand that offered free Alladin stickers inside the container, and I was a sucker of stickers then

A Sad Happy Birthday to me!

Happy Birthday card

I’m officially saying goodbye to my nonage, and it is time I embraced 22. It is kind of sad to know that you get older everyday, but it is much more of a blessing to have been blessed with this life and the years that go with it.

Birthdays are something someone looks forward to, because it is his special day. And I too looked forward to my birthday, not because of the foods that comes with it or the party that will be set up, nor the gifts I will be receiving but the mere fact that I have attained that age. And why don’t I look forward to the foods, the party or the gifts? It’s because I was accustomed to having sad, uncelebrated birthdays.

Website embroidered on uniform: just another blog promotion technique

a faint attempt on designing clothes, my new nursing uniform

my own design

After having known that I am one of those 100 trainees qualified for the hospital training, it occurred to me immediately that since the duty days are from Monday to Friday, I should get me a new pair of nursing uniform. I had two when I was still a student nurse, and had another one, our gala uniform, when he had our Pinning Ceremony (professional pin). So all in all I had three, but then I rather was disgusted of the thought of wearing my two old uniforms, as I will look like a student with it, as the design is almost always what male student nurses wear now–that white uppers with buttons on the side. Ew, I really hate that design.

Gay Words are (Perhaps) Powerful that I’ve Become the President

Traits of an effective Leader cartoon

Traits of a Leader

In the Philippines, several new words have been coined, words that have gained national attention and usage, and most of these slangs are formulated by gays no less. The typical Filipino gays are primarily those who rampantly do neologisms, fabricating words that do not only entertain by the comical tone or sound of them but also to serve as word codes, esoteric to their advantage, so to conceal the words that may be so offensive or disgusting to the other listeners, as Filipino gays, the typical ones, tend to be very vulgar and uninhibited.

Emergency! Emergency! Paging Dr. Beat

Emergency ambulance cartoon

Emergency!

One week down, eleven to go, and I know this post’s title is familiar to you. If not, then do a search of “Emergency 911” by Prezioso. This week has really been exhausting, but very rewarding. I just finished my first week of hospital training in Davao Regional Hospital, in the Emergency Room for this week and the next.

Being in the emergency room can really tire you the bones, but with a very good cause. It is so much better to have been tired from a duty of attending and helping a number of people than have been tired for doing almost nothing.

No More Nocturnal Blogging Biz for Now

night owl cartoon

The owl in me

Tomorrow, May 5, commences my hospital training at Davao Regional Hospital, and I must admit I am kind of unprepared. I fear I have lost what little knowledge left of me since my college days, or the skills that I had then. It is more like back to zero.

The training will be for three months, and I really thought it’s all about hospital duty, duty and duty. But no, there are still those case presentations and some requirements. What can I do? I entered this endeavor so I must face all what’s there that’s going to try to knock me off. I guess it is also time I jumpstart my career as a registered nurse, to be responsible, to stand at my own feet (without the clinical instructors anymore!).
