All Star Female (various artists) sings “Just Stand Up” for Stand Up 2 Cancer

When I first heard of the song “Just Stand Up“, I instantly loved it the way I immediately loved “Crush” by David Archuleta. “Just Stand Up” not only features powerful vocals by artists such as Beyonce, Carrie Underwood, Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, Sheryl Crow, Fergie, Leona Lewis, Keyshia Cole, LeAnn Rimes, Natasha Bedingfield, Melissa Etheridge, Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, Ciara, Ashanti (in singing order) but also powerful, uplifting lyrics.

The collaboration of this all-female performance was conceived primarily by American song-writer and producer Antonio “L.A.” Reid, after a meeting with the founder of Stand Up 2 Cancer, an organization that will benefit from the proceeds of the record. Together with American singer Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, Reid produced the track and the single was released on August 21, 2008.

On September 5, 2008, a live performance by the said artists on “Stand Up 2 Cancer” event was aired by multiple channels, such as ABC, CBS and NBC. All the original performers appeared, except LeAnn Rimes, Sheryl Crow and Melissa Etheridge, with the addition of Nicole Scherzinger from The Pussycat Dolls filling in the parts of Sheryl Crow.

This song is really a moving song, especially for those who are inflicted with cancer, any forms of it, and also their relatives who in a way are also affected in many aspects of their lives.

1.45 million new cancer cases are expected to be diagnoses this year
4000 people are diagnosed with cancer each day
Almost 165 people are diagnosed with cancer each hour
Every minute 3 people are diagnosed with cancer

Here is the video of the live performance at Fashion Rocks. Notice how Natasha Bedingfield dressed up differently: she wore white pants! For a second, I thought she was trying hard to “stand out” from all the rest. LOL. The lyrics of the song is at below the video embed.
