A re-popularization of Jason Mraz’s “I’m Yours”?

I\'m Yours by Jason Mraz album cover

I knew it! I perfectly knew it!

Back in the days when I did my summer classes midway the third year and the fourth, my favorite local station used to play Jason Mraz’s “I’m Yours”. It was played several times as it got many requests for play, and had it not been with those recurrent plays I wouldn’t have loved the song.

I memorized the song’s lyrics as fast as I had come to love the song. From then on, I cannot help myself but sing it like that of LSS (last song syndrome)—at school, at the mall, wherever!

At those times, there wasn’t a video for the song yet, and it dawned on me that the song was not yet popularized all over the world as even on some FM stations and even on Internet radios, I didn’t experienced hearing the song then. I also had a theory then that my favorite local station just downloaded new mp3’s on the Internet and play it on the air, not even standing to wait for the official sampler of song sent by their head station in Metro Manila. This I can attest because some of their songs still had the voice inserts (for example, “AOL: First Listen” or mention of FM stations in the US), something that I also experience when downloading mp3’s on some P2P programs.

And yes I was right. My local radio station just played it, and played a little more so that it became a hit here in our city two years ago. My radio station can become weird sometimes, but good at promoting new songs even without the official sampler yet.

So now that “I’m Yours” has come back to life again, I usually furrow my brow when I hear someone sings it, especially with an FM station playing it on, and say to myself, “What? Is it only now that you know this song? I’ve already mastered this two years ago. How pathetic of you.”

Even my best friend Joyce gets a big question about this, as she too has known the song two years ago. It’s just funny. I guess this song was composed those times and had been in Jason Mraz’s previous album and now re-appears as an additional to his new album, thus the re-popularization of the song.

I used to love this song, but since I am kind of irritated by the being “behind” of some people, I don’t like to sing this anymore. If you still do, well here I give you the official music video (finally!) and lyrics of Jason Mraz’s “I’m Yours”.

“I’m Yours”
Jason Mraz

Well you done done me and you bet I felt it
I tried to be chill but you’re so hot that I melted
I fell right through the cracks
and now I’m trying to get back
Before the cool done run out
I’ll be giving it my best test
Nothing’s going to stop me but divine intervention
I reckon it’s again my turn to win some or learn some

I won’t hesitate no more, no more
It cannot wait, I’m yours

Well open up your mind and see like me
Open up your plans and damn you’re free
Look into your heart and you’ll find love love love love
Listen to the music of the moment people dance and sing
We’re just one big family
And It’s our God-forsaken right to be loved love loved love loved

So I won’t hesitate no more, no more
It cannot wait I’m sure
There’s no need to complicate
Our time is short
This is our fate, I’m yours

Scooch closer dear
and i will nibble your ear

I’ve been spending way too long checking my tongue in the mirror
And bending over backwards just to try to see it clearer
My breath fogged up the glass
And so I drew a new face and laughed
I guess what i be saying is there ain’t no better reason
To rid yourself of vanity and just go with the seasons
It’s what we aim to do
Our name is our virtue

I won’t hesitate no more, no more
It cannot wait I’m sure
There’s no need to complicate
Our time is short
this is our fate, I’m yours

Well no no, well open up your mind and see like me
Open up your plans and damn you’re free
Look into your heart and you’ll find the sky is yours
Listen to the music of the moment come and dance with me
A lá one big family (2nd time: A lá happy family; 3rd time: A lá peaceful melody)
It’s your God-forsaken right to be loved love love love

I won’t hesitate no more, no more
It cannot wait, I’m sure
There’s no need to complicate
Our time is short
This is our fate, I’m yours

No please, don’t complicate
Our time is short
This is our fate, I’m yours

No please, don’t hesitate
no more, no more
It cannot wait
The sky is yours!
